Edwin is a researcher and lecturer of financial services at Ulster University, with additional special lecturing at Queens University Belfast.
Past: Starting a corporate banking career in the US, Edwin worked for a mid-sized bank, CIT Group, working in Liquidity Risk. While at CIT, along with day-to-day liquidity work, he experienced the takeover of another bank which served to strengthen and add stability to the bank’s funding sources. After returning to Louisiana, he worked for a regional bank, Hancock and Whitney Bank (HHC), operating in Commercial Portfolio risk and analysis. While there, he actively dealt with the 2015 oil price crash, managing the credit exposure in the loan book. After moving to Capital One, N.A., Edwin switched into specialized structured finance transactions, which leveraged US tax credit programs along with appropriate state tax programs. The group mainly covered the New Markets Tax Credit program run by the US Treasury and Alternative Energy Tax credits run by the US Department of Energy with congressional tax allocations. In a 2017 move to Ireland, Edwin worked with Citigroup in the EMEA Risk Analytics group, assisting with regulatory matters regarding IMM and IMA permissions - Market Risk and Counterparty Credit Risk model use approvals granted by the PRA/BoE. In addition, Edwin was a part of the Global Stress Testing & Scenario team in the Quantitative Risk & Stress Testing (QRS) group - global function.
Attending McNeese State University, Edwin earned a BA (2011), Liberal Studies–History with a final dissertation titled “Policing a Divided Society: Failures and Successes in the late 20th Century Northern Ireland.” During his studies, Edwin also competed for the university in cross country and track & field at the regional and national level (NCAA D1). After finishing the degree a year early, he enrolled on the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) program at McNeese (2012). He focused on international businesses and trade during the MBA program. Lastly, Edwin went to Queen Mary University of London (2014) in the United Kingdom to focus more narrowly on banking and finance studies. Currently, Edwin is an independent scholar at Queen's University Belfast and is apart of the Queen's University Centre for Economic History (QUCEH).
